Finding Favourites Quickly and Easily

(Last Updated On: March 1, 2014)

Guest strategy written by Glen

This strategy is designed to find the favourites that win.

Using your daily paper you look to find how the favourite has performed over the past 6 running’s of that race.

You are looking for races that have a clear bias for the favourite. An example would be if you had two races, one with favourites finishing 112113 in the last six races and one with favourites finishing 402135 in the last six races.

It is quite clear which race is more suited to the favourite! This should help to find races where the favourite wins more often than the standard 30%. It is a good idea to follow this up with some form reading afterwards to make sure that the selection likes the race conditions as well.

There may only be a few races every day and so you can quickly scan the racing section of your paper to find the selections.

Let me know if you have any suggestions to develop this.

  1. I have found that favourites that have a consistent form run make good selections. If in thier last 3 races they have won or placed 123 and 4th in any combination then they deserve a second look. Also I look to back favourites from late june to end of august by which time the form has settled down and trainers bring thier horses to the boil for the peak of the turf season at all other times I would lay favourites.
