Ladbrokes Review

[review]

Ladbrokes is one of oldest of the bigger bookmakers and was founded in 1886 by two gentlemen by the names of Messrs Schwind and Pendleton who were commission agents for the Worcester based training farm called Ladbroke Hall. In 1902 the partnership was joined by a Arthur Bendir who decided upon the name Ladbrokes as befitting to their operations and moved to London. They were the main bookmakers in the more prestigious areas of London at the time and had their headquarters in Mayfair.

In 1956 the company was acquired by the then nephew of the owner for a reported £100,000 and Mark Stein showed initiative when in 1961 betting shops were legalised he bought a large chain of shops. They have had a coloured history since then but remain a prominent brand in the industry and a reliable name.

So there’s the history, what of the bookmaker in today’s competitive market place. They are the most generous of all the bookmakers offering an outstanding £100 sign up bonus. This is unrivalled in the industry and the most we usually come to expect from any bookmaker is £50. They full marks then for the sign up bonus but what happens after that?

The sports offered are what we come to expect from all major bookmakers as they cover everything from football through to ice hockey. They offer competitive odds that fall into line with the majority of other bookmakers. They’re also quick to price up for the horses and usually offer odds the night before the racing allowing the shrewd punters a chance to get on at a decent price. For the larger staking punters amongst us they can be a little quick to shut people down but for the recreational punter they are a necessity for the portfolio.

For those that like to get out and about their Odds On [TM] is a good concession. You basically earn points for every bet you place and are rewarded with free bets in the same vein as the supermarkets reward schemes.

Customer Support is a little slow and could do with a revamp. The easiest way to contact them is via the telephone, it’s free and they are quick to respond. No online chat however which nowadays is often a more convenient approach.

As with all bookmakers compliant with the Gambling Commission they are prompt in all forms of payouts and depositing funds is supported by various methods and secure.

Overall Ladbrokes get the thumbs up and we recommend them to add to your portfolio of bookmakers. They offer everything you need and even if your not with them for the long run their sign up bonus is worth signing up for.
